Stortinget -

I samarbeid med Stortingets SRHR-nettverk arrangerer Sex og Politikk et parlamentarikermøte mellom UNFPA direktør Diene Keita og stortingsrepresentanter. Møtet er lukket og holdes på engelsk.

Over the past 30 years, the world has seen significant progress in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). UNFPA is the UN organisation responsible for this field and has been a key actor in achieving this progress. UNFPA is one of Norway’s main cooperation partners in the effort to advance SRHR, and Norway is the largest provider of core funding to UNFPA.

With increasing opposition to these fundamental rights and global cuts in development aid, both UNFPA and efforts to promote sexual and reproductive rights are at a crossroads.

As an organisation, UNFPA plays a crucial role in the UN’s work on the ground, in dialogue with national authorities, and in maintaining the normative work on SRHR. Cuts in U.S. development aid and the recent withdrawal of the United States from UNFPA have led to significant reductions in the organization’s activities. At the same time, a UN reform process, UN80, is underway, in which the future of UNFPA is under review.

UNFPA’s new Executive Director will give an introductory presentation on the situation for SRHR, how the organisation is addressing the global challenges, and the role of UNFPA in continued progress for SRHR.

Followed by a question-and-answer session.
