I et nylig publisert videoforedrag deler Dr. Prabin Shakya, administrerende direktør i Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN), sine perspektiver på denne historiske utviklingen og hva den har betydd for inkludering, rettigheter og tilgang til helsetjenester.

Foredraget var en del av årets Ottesen-seminar som arrangeres i forbindelse med Sex og Politikks årsmøte. I år hadde seminaret fokus på innføring av et tredje juridiske kjønn, og inviterte internasjonale forelesere til å dele erfaringer primært fra Nepal og Mexico og Latin-Amerika.

Med utgangspunkt i mange års arbeid innen seksuell og reproduktiv helse og rettigheter gir Dr. Shakya et innblikk i den nepalske konteksten og utviklingen mot større anerkjennelse og inkludering av personer med kjønnsidentiteter utenfor den tradisjonelle tokjønnsmodellen. Foredraget belyser både viktige fremskritt og utfordringer som fortsatt gjenstår, og gir verdifulle refleksjoner for beslutningstakere, helsepersonell, sivilsamfunnsorganisasjoner og andre som arbeider for likestilling og inkludering.

Nepal’s Pioneering Journey on Gender Inclusion Featured in New Video Lecture

In a recently published video lecture, Dr. Prabin Shakya, Executive Director of the Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN), shares his perspectives on this historic development and its significance for inclusion, rights, and access to healthcare.

The lecture was part of this year’s Ottesen Seminar, organized in connection with Sex og Politikk’s annual general meeting. This year, the seminar focused on the introduction of a third legal gender and featured international speakers who shared experiences primarily from Nepal, as well as from Mexico and the wider Latin American region.

Drawing on many years of work in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights, Dr. Shakya provides valuable insights into the Nepalese context and the country’s journey toward greater recognition and inclusion of people with gender identities beyond the traditional gender binary.
